Full time Doctor required. Permanency preferred. At present we have four doctors working full time and one doctor working sessions. Remuneration is excellent and will be via a service agreement. We are looking for a hard working doctor who is committed to building a vibrant practice for his/herself here in tropical north Queensland.
Practice Details
Ayr Medical Group has been established for the past 25 years. In December 2002 the practice moved to a new purpose built building that also houses an X-ray facility with CT, Pharmacy, Pathology collection Centre. It is a relatively large and very busy general practice. Weekly patient through put is in the vicinity of 1200 patients of mixed demographics. The employment of Registered Nurses enables us to provide the community with a small accident and emergency facility that services our patients and reduces the pressure on the local hospital A&E Department. The surgery is used as a venue for educational meetings that brings together doctors from other surgeries, the local hospital and visiting specialists for professional development. Regular meetings are also held with the other doctors working in the area for professional networking. Ayr Medical Group is a teaching practice with the Royal Australian College of General Practice. The RACGP Training Program is housed at new the School of Medicine at James Cook University in Townsville. Ayr is a small close nit community and most of the doctors and staff are involved in the community through various projects, sporting clubs and organizations etc There are two general practices in Ayr and one in Home Hill, which is ten minutes drive south of Ayr. The Burdekin River separates the two towns. We have a fifty-five bed public hospital in Ayr and a smaller one in Home Hill. Although specialists including general surgeons, pediatricians, orthopedic surgeons, thoracic physicians, podiatrists and psychiatrist visit the town regularly from Townsville, all major cases are transported by road or air to Townsville. Ayr and Home Hill both have Pharmacies and Ambulance Stations.
Town
Ayr Medical Group is an accredited general practice located in the town of Ayr in North Queensland. Ayr is the largest of the communities situated in the Burdekin River delta. It is a rural community on the Bruce Highway approximately 100km south of Townsville. The Airlie Beach and the Whitsundays are 2 hours drive to the south. Our population is approximately 19,000 and is supported primarily by the sugar and vegetable growing, aquiculture and grazing industries. The town is self-sustaining from a shopping point of view with two large supermarkets and numerous specialty stores. There are four automotive dealerships, three electrical (white goods) stores and all of the supporting trades’ people and business need to service a busy and successful community. Culture and the arts are also catered for with community libraries, theatres and cinemas. Fishing is possibly the single most popular pastime in Ayr. Ayr is a sporting Mecca - you name it and we play it. There are a number of choices for schooling in both private and public schools. Further education is catered for by the Australian Centre For Tropical Agriculture and The Burdekin College.
