The Role:
We are seeking enthusiastic Emergency Medicine PHO/Registrar to join a dynamic team of clinicians. This is the main referral hospital in the Region, which has a population of approximately 250,000.

The role has the responsibility for assessing & managing patients presenting to the emergency department including assisting more junior medical staff in managing their patients.
This Department is led by 9.5 FTE FACEMs, 4.0 FTE FACRRMs and 1.0 FTE SMO. With a 16-hour senior floor coverage on the roster with an on-call senior and a low-threshold to come in after hours. The ED has 17 FTE RegistrarsPrincipal House Officers, 8 Resident Medical Officers and 6 Interns.
The department sees on average 50,000 attendances each year with an admission rate of 25%, it deals with the full spectrum of Emergency Care with trauma and resuscitation a core component of the work along with the management of routine Emergency/Urgent patient presentations. There is a strong and innovative clinical practice with ongoing development of point of care clinical ultrasound, procedural sedation, non-invasive and invasive ventilation, toxicological and toxinological practices.
It is accredited for 12-months of ACEM advanced training, 6-months of advanced training in Ultrasound in a Special Skills Placement and accredited for the ACEM paediatric logbook. The ED is accredited by ACRRM and RACGP for AST and AGPT Trainees. In addition, they provide critical care rotations in intensive care & anaesthetics for post primary ED advanced trainees.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing all patients on presentation to ED in a timely manner under the consultant supervision
  • Formulate a diagnosis & treatment plan
  • Initiating, implementing & monitoring management of patients under the supervision
  • Organising appropriate investigations & follow up on results
  • Clear, concise & timely documentation
  • Ensuring timely discussions with patients & their family, providing counselling & support where required
  • Provide discharge letters to patients who are discharged room the ED
  • Liaison with the inpatient teams & GPs for ongoing care of the patient
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement & audit activities.

  • Significant clinical experience, skills, and experience in the provision of emergency medical care.
  • Sound understanding of contemporary Emergency Department models of care.
  • Participation in relevant professional development, research, and continuous learning to ensure the progression of individual clinical standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with staff and patients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a multidisciplinary approach to service provision.
  • Demonstrated willingness to participate in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education including maintenance of personal knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the principles of quality and review.
