Consultant Emergency Medicine - Queensland, QLD

The Role:
We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic, team-oriented Emergency Medicine Consultant to join a dynamic team of clinicians.

The Emergency Department sees an average of 130 patients per 24-hour period and sees a vast range of clinical presentations. Being a referral Hospital for the region, the Department sees a large amount of critically unwell and trauma cases and works closely with the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service.

Applications are invited for Emergency Medicine Physicians, with permanent full or part time roles available.

Applicants who have completed or will soon complete their Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (ACEM) Fellowship examination and expect to meet the essential requirements of this position are also encouraged to apply.

The department sees on average 50,000 attendances each year with an admission rate of 25%, it deals with the full spectrum of Emergency Care with trauma and resuscitation a core component of the work along with the management of routine Emergency/Urgent patient presentations. There is a strong and innovative clinical practice with ongoing development of point of care clinical ultrasound, procedural sedation, non-invasive and invasive ventilation, toxicological and toxinological practices.

This Department is led by 9.5 FTE Fellowship of Australasian College Emergency Medicine (FACEMs), 4.0 FTE Fellow of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRMs) and 1.0 FTE Senior Medical Officer (SMO).

The Hospital:
This is a 305-bed facility and is the main referral hospital for the region, now providing integrated cancer care services in Central Queensland in the newly established building boasting state of the art medical equipment.
The Hospital has four operating theatres and two procedure rooms. The operating theatre complex is supported by a 6 bed Intensive Care Unit. The Department is accredited for specialist training and is heavily involved in teaching and research.

Situated close to stunning beaches, perfect for snorkelling, scuba diving and boating and surrounded by the Ranges/Mountain thus creating an impressive backdrop for the vibrant City and coast. The city boasts several high performing Schools, over 80 education facilities including public and private schools (preparatory year followed by year 1 to year 12), special education, distance education, TAFE, and University.

Qualifications:
MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) to enable registration as a Specialist in Emergency Medicine with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent.

Fellowship of either The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) to enable registration as a Specialist in General Practice with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or equivalent.
