Consultant Gastroenterologist - Tasmania, TAS

The Role:
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist to take on an opportunity in a beautiful rural coastal location.

Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, you will be working for a health service which has two major sites located approximately 50km apart.

The position involves management of patients in General Gastroenterology, IBD, chronic liver disease, and both diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy.
Experience in capsule endoscopy would be highly regarded.

Gastroenterologists provide gastroenterology and Hepatology services across both sites. The base site is predominately outpatient and day surgery cases. The two hospitals both have very busy emergency and general medical departments. Anaesthetic services are provided at both sites and a busy general surgical service is located at one with predominately day surgery cases at the second.  A rehabilitation service is located in a purpose-built ward and there are extensive outpatient services for a range of subspecialty services. There is also an eight bed Intensive Care unit and onsite support services in pathology, imaging and pharmacy are extensive.

There is a private Hospital is co-located and this facilitates private practice for many of the region’s specialists.

The service offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School.  As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate medical education program.
 
Consultant Gastroenterologists provide specialist diagnosis, treatment and care for public patients and provide a consultative service in Gastroenterology to other disciplines and to both hospitals within service.

The Service:
The health service has the main acute 160 bed teaching Hospital (with a rural clinical school attached) and a 70 bed Private Hospital, the other acute Hospital is located a short distance away and has 130 beds.

A busy rural regional hospital with a diverse spread of surgical procedures performed including ENT, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dental Surgery, Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, ECT and a limited amount of Paediatric Surgery.

Salary package up to $414,402 including allowances:

  • Allowance in lieu of private practice of 35%
  • Recruitment and Retention allowance of 25%
  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $24,927 per annum
  • Fully maintained vehicle or allowance in lieu up to $25,758 per annum

Specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty
Current Working with Children Registration
Current Drivers Licence
