Consultant Gastroenterologist - Queensland, QLD

The Role:
An exciting opportunity is currently available for an experienced Senior Consultant or Consultant (Gastroenterologist) to join the Department of Medicine. You will be joining a committed team of clinicians to run and further develop gastroenterology services within the Division of Medicine, Wide Bay Hospital and Health Service.

You will be expected to provide high-quality, expert clinical services in Gastroenterology across the Health Service.
Currently the service is operated by GESA accredited visiting and locum gastroenterologists and staff specialist surgeons, with strong visiting and telehealth links to tertiary gastroenterology services in Metro North Endoscopy and out-patient services are well developed. Your expertise with ward consultations will be sought by high performing general medical and general surgical teams. The service is well supported and coordinated by senior nurses, administrative and other multi-disciplinary staff. There is potential to lead and develop general gastroenterology services and subspecialty areas interest, such as inflammatory bowel disease or hepatology.

The Hospital
An acute 142-bed Hospital, that works in close partnership with the other nearby 80-bed Hospital to deliver high quality health care to the community. A comprehensive range of health care services are available including acute inpatient and outpatient services and community health, oral health, and community mental health services, some of which are provided at off campus sites.
 
The Hospital has built a reputation for excellence especially in professional education and attracts medical and nursing programs in conjunction with several renowned Queensland universities.
 
Location
Just over three hours’ drive or a quick 45-minute flight from Brisbane. This Coastal Region is a stunning tapestry of nature’s wonders, featuring the World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, the Great Sandy Strait, marine parks, wetlands, ancient rainforests, and a stunning coastline of pristine, white sandy beaches.
 
The beauty of the Coast is not confined to the coast, with mountains, national parks, native woodlands, dense rainforest, and the beautiful Mary River.
Known as the whale watching capital of Australia, you can get up close and personal with the humpbacks and enjoy an enviable year-round climate. The esplanade is dotted with parks, playgrounds, picnic areas, piers, cafes, restaurants, and shops to keep the whole family entertained.
 
Skills/Qualifications
Fellowship of the Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) is preferred, as recognised by the Australian Medical Council, including maintenance of CPD and good standing as required by AHPRA for the maintenance of Specialist Registration.

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following key attributes.

  • Demonstrated ability to competently work as an expert staff specialist in Gastroenterology
  • Demonstrated expert clinical knowledge and skills, specifically in Gastroenterology
  • Demonstrated sound clinical judgement and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing professional education and development, includingmaintenance of personal knowledge and skills
  • Demonstrated willingness to teach others, including interns, junior medical officers and undergraduatemedical students
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team approach to care and service provision
  • Ability to maintain accurate and complete medical records
  • High level verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work and liaise with junior and senior medical staff, and other health professionals
  • Sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills and ethical behaviour required of a medical practitioner
  • Commitment to the principals of quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance
  • Proven ability to practice medicine in a cross-cultural environment
